Earthwork Software
EarthWork Software

The story of Trakware, Inc......

Trakware has been a pioneer in the development of excavation estimating software since its
establishment in 1992 in Chicago, Illinois. The company’s flagship product, EarthWorks for DOS,
revolutionized the industry with its affordability, user-friendliness, and voice command capabilities.

Trakware relocated to Albuquerque, NM, in 1997, where they launched EarthWorks for Windows,
maintaining the same layout as the DOS version.

In 1998, Trakware released TrenchWorks, a simple and
easy-to-use software that quickly outshined similar complicated programs.

In 1999, SectionWorks was launched, which allows users to estimate excavation projects for road, rail, or canal projects from cross-section drawings.

Trakware continued to refine its product line, releasing a 32-bit version of EarthWorks in 2000, and
EarthWorks Pro in 2003, which allowed estimators to read drawing information directly from AutoCAD
drawings. The company released newer versions of EarthWorks and EarthWorks Pro in 2005, with builtin
training videos, and in 2006, they introduced solid modeling techniques to provide the most precise
estimates.

In 2008, Trakware released the on-screen version of EarthWorks to work with PDFs and TIFFs,
freeing users from their offices and digitizers. The Vector PDF takeoff version of the EarthWorks
software was released in 2012, which allowed users to import vector linework directly from the PDF,
greatly reducing takeoff time and increasing accuracy.

In 2020, we released the cloud version of EarthWorks which allows users to perform takeoffs and access their data from any computer in the world, called EarthWorks Anywhere.

Trakware’s goal has always been to provide the easiest-to-use excavation takeoff software at an
affordable price, and they have continued to refine the EarthWorks excavation software over the years
to achieve that goal.
